The Bangor Daily News is looking for an audience development coordinator to grow digital subscriptions and deepen our relationship with our customers and communities. You will help readers across Maine get greater value from our news service and feel compelled to subscribe -- and stay subscribed. You will be part of a team that works to exceed our readers’ expectations for customer service and deepen their engagement with our journalism via digital products and in-person events.
This role straddles consumer revenue, customer service and audience engagement. You will promote BDN news products, conduct customer outreach and ensure readers can easily access our websites while providing high level customer care by responding to subscriber inquiries and satisfying their concerns in a single interaction. You will produce newsletters, identify ways to grow subscriptions and promote events while assisting print and digital subscribers with account activation, customer service issues, billing inquiries and general questions.
We’ll succeed together if you:
Have a track record of growing audience engagement and reader revenue for a media product, whether through membership, subscription, or other means
Wake up in the morning with a great idea for connecting with an audience -- and can execute on it by lunch
Are comfortable trying new things, experimenting, and adjusting -- and don’t get discouraged by some egg on your face
Understand the news/sales and news/opinion firewalls and respect them -- while being an effective collaborator
We want to work with people who:
Know and love Greater Bangor, the coast and The County. Our readers love Maine, and so do we. If you don’t already, you’re able to immerse yourself quickly.
Are curious about how and why things work and don’t work -- and like to fix them when they break.
Have a drive to help others.
Care about and read local journalism, understand why it is important to communities, and want to be a part of strengthening it for generations to come.
Are skilled at working with others: You’re less concerned with who gets credit and more focused on seeing your team succeed.
If you’ve ever been called a Swiss Army knife by your friends or an employer, we encourage you to apply! We invite interested candidates to forward a cover letter and resume to
