The University of Maine invites applications for an academic-year lecturer in Educational Leadership. This is a fixed-length, non-tenure track position with a start date of August 27, 2018.
Program Description: The Educational Leadership program is committed to building capacity for administrative and teacher leadership in PK-12 schools based on a tradition of practice-based scholarship, a history of involvement in Maine schools, and a commitment to enhancing leadership capacity related to diversity and its implications for schools. Programs for the Master's, Certificate of Advanced Study, and Doctoral degrees emphasize the development of school leaders grounded in practice and research.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Within the Educational Leadership program the successful candidate will teach four courses per semester. Additionally, the person will be involved in advising students. The person may also be asked to serve on Doctoral committees if qualified. All teaching is in the evening and some Saturdays throughout the academic year, with the option of teaching additional courses during the summer. Co-teaching, teaching off campus, and a willingness to incorporate distance-learning and online options are additional expectations. The candidate is expected to establish working relationships with practitioners, schools, professional development organizations, and policy-makers and share responsibility in making programmatic and instructional decisions within the program area, school, and College. The successful candidate will establish and maintain professional relationships that reflect courtesy, civility, and mutual respect, as well as a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have recent PK-12 building and/or district- level experience working in a formal leadership role at the school and/or district level; have attained a CAS or Doctoral degree (preferred) in Educational Leadership or a related field; possess a strong working knowledge of leadership development and practice; be able to collaborate and work effectively with colleagues; have knowledge and skills in group facilitation and individual development of adult leaders and learners; possess skills in developing and teaching online courses as well as using video conferencing technologies; and has a sensitivity to issues of diversity and difference that face educators in Maine school settings.
