Code Enforcement Officer

The City of Bangor, ME (population 31,985) is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Code Enforcement Officer (CEO). The person in this position serves as head of the City's Code Enforcement Office and reports directly to the Director of Community and Economic Development. CEO is responsible for planning, organizing, performing, and managing the operations and activities of the Code Enforcement Division, including but not limited to building inspections, permit issuance, and plan review. Customer service is one of the highest priorities for this position; therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the highest quality customer service to internal and external clients. CEO directs, coordinates, reviews, and participates in the work of professional and technical employees to ensure that building codes are enforced with uniformity, equity, and safety. CEO provides interpretations and decisions on applicable codes, rules, regulations, and technical problems of enforcement.
A bachelor's degree in related field is preferred, and a minimum of 3-5 years training or experience. Position requires certification as a Maine Code Enforcement Officer or ability to become certified CEO within 12 months of appointment. In addition, certification in all seven disciplines of the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code or ability to become certified within 12 months of appointment, advanced certification in court techniques (Rule 80-K enforcement) or ability to receive certification within 18 months of appointment, certification as Local Plumbing Inspector for both internal plumbing and subsurface wastewater disposal or ability to receive certification within 12 months of appointment.

The salary range for the position is $58,402 to $78,448 annually with a comprehensive fringe benefit package.
