MECO Shaft Seals, a division of WOODEX Bearing Company, Inc., located in Georgetown, Maine, is the leading manufacturer of full contact soft face rotary shaft seals. MECO shaft seals are used around the globe in all process industries. Several examples where MECO products are used include: food processing equipment, plastics production machinery, petrochemical industry, pharmaceutical plants and common bulk material handling equipment.
MECO has an opening for an outgoing entry level or junior level applications engineer, located in Georgetown, ME reporting to the Chief Engineer of the company. This is a long term position with an expected long learning curve. The position is responsible for the design and customer support of innovative shaft seals for rotating equipment utilized throughout the process industries. MECO seals are typically engineered in low volume.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
•Determine seal configuration for new seal applications.
•Define assemblies & components for costing.
•Read equipment blueprints.
•Draft & design seal layouts.
•Interact with end-users, OEMs & distributors by providing in depth explanations of MECO products.
•Discuss seal installations & customers’ equipment.
•Answer customer questions asked before purchasing, during installation, after installation or during problems.
•Support is done over the phone, e-mail or occasional site visit.
•Long term projects include assisting with in-house testing projects.
•College graduate with Mechanical Engineering degree preferred. Other engineering disciplines will be considered.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills along with a professional image.
•A general overall interest in machinery and process equipment is important.
•Knowledge of rotating equipment is helpful.
• Must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment, managing multiple tasks, and able to complete projects.
• Potential to travel overnight, more as the experience grows, 10 to 30% of the year.
• This job required frequent walking, frequent standing and occasional climbing.
• Computer literate with an array of computer skills is desired.
