The Bangor Daily News, an innovative, award-winning and family-owned digital media company, has an immediate opening for an ambitious reporter covering news in Belfast, Maine, and the surrounding area.

Belfast is a fascinating city on the coast of Maine with a high quality of life. The role includes coverage of breaking news and the biggest stories in business, local politics, culture and features. The position is part of a team of journalists dedicated to producing direct, honest, comprehensive and compelling local reporting of changing communities along Maine’s coast. 

If you’re the right person for this challenge, this is how we would describe you: You want to be the go-to person for trusted news in your area. You can explain the importance of a story, and how it serves the audience. You have excellent critical thinking skills. You know that good journalism depends on good sources, so you pride yourself on growing your network to get information that no one else has. You are a savvy digital news consumer comfortable presenting information in different formats — from straight-up news stories to analyses and explainers.
