The City of Brewer is seeking a highly organized individual with strong leadership and communication skills to fill the position of the Environmental Services Director. The successful candidate will lead an award-winning facility with first class employees, who are experts in their individual areas of responsibility. This position reports to the City Manager and is responsible for the direct oversight and supervision of a Grade V secondary biological treatment plant with fourteen lift stations and over 53 miles of sewer line with 1,400 manholes. The Director oversees the inspection and maintenance of 65 miles of stormwater collection line with 1,600 catch basins. Currently all water that enters the stormwater collection system is safely discharged into the Penobscot River with limited treatment as part of the City's MDEP license to discharge stormwater. This is a full-time position, with a competitive annual salary and benefits package. Qualifications include experience with operating a conventional activated sludge treatment process in a Grade V Treatment plant with 5 or more year's supervisory experience within a Grade V system; or 10 or more years' experience in wastewater treatment plant supervision. Out of state candidates with similar and transferrable qualifications will be accepted. A college degree in a related field is desirable and/or a relevant combination of experience and education. The successful applicant will possess excellent customer-service skills; the ability to direct, train, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of employees; capable of planning and administering treatment plant upgrades, combined sewer separation projects, and sewer line replacement projects. The demonstrated ability to write, interpret and evaluate reports, statistics, as well as federal and state regulations is mandatory.
