Bangor Correspondent

Location: Hybrid Remote/Bangor, Maine

Maine Public is seeking a full-time reporter to join a team dedicated to delivering independent and trusted journalism. The Bangor Correspondent provide high-quality content for Maine Public Radio and our other news platforms, maintaining the highest standards of excellence professional on-air delivery. 

Focusing on story issues and themes that extend northward into more rural parts of the state as well as Bangor Metro and Down East, the Bangor Correspondent must write quickly and communicate clearly within daily deadlines for radio, web, and video. This position reports news items and program segments, pitches daily story ideas, voices and produces multi-media stories. Additionally, the News Reporter develops sources and beats, regularly engages with the public, and must have the ability to react to, produce and post breaking news across the 24-hour news cycle, including evenings, weekends, overnights and early mornings.

With NPR, PBS, and other partners we strive to be the standard bearer for high-integrity journalism and programming. The successful candidate must thrive in a professional and dynamic environment, work well both in a team environment and independently, and demonstrate a love of public broadcasting. 

Job Requirements: At least 2 years' experience as a journalist, public media experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Radio news production preferred, television experience helpful but not necessary. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments, employees, professional organizations, and vendors. Regular travel throughout the state and a valid driver’s license is required.
