Police Chief

The Police Chief is responsible for preventing and suppressing crime, ensuring the safety of residents, visitors, and property. This role involves managing and administering the Police Department, Communications/Dispatch, and law enforcement activities related to Harbor Master, Deputy Harbor Master, Shellfish Warden, and Animal Control Officer in the Town of Mt. Desert. The Police Chief is expected to maintain awareness of existing conditions and make necessary recommendations for improvements. The incumbent must operate in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and directives from the Town Manager. Responsibilities encompass capital expenditure programs, departmental budgeting, communication with stakeholders, positive employee relations, personnel management, operational planning, and asset management for police and communication equipment and facilities. The Police Chief reports to the Town Manager.
